fur that came from between her toes and tied above her ankles. When Ekta and the warriors approached the Chief, the warriors bowed one by one, leaving Ekta standing in front of her father. The Chief began talking, but George could not understand a word he was saying. Not because he did not know the language, but because he had caught the gaze of Ekta. Her dark eyes had locked to his blue eyes immediately. George knew he was being disrespectful, but he could not break the gaze of the beautiful Apache princess. George was finally brought back to earth by a slap on the back from the Chief. All George could do was look up at him and smile. When his eyes yearned to see Ekta, he turned toward her, and she was still looking at him. His stomach began to feel sick. His hands were sweaty. Never in his eighteen years had he felt anything like this feeling. He didn't understand it, but he didn't want it go away. It wasn't long before the Chief dismissed Ekta, to prepare for her journey. It was then, and only then, that her eyes moved from George's. George watched as she and the warriors exited the center of the village with the same ceremonial grace as they had entered. The feeling he had for her was strange and new. He did not understand them, but he did understand the cause. Keeping his focus on his task, and not his beautiful travel companion, was the best way for him to avoid the feelings. Hours into their trip, Ekta galloped her horse up beside George. She silently rode beside him. Again George resisted the urge to look at her. They rode another few miles before Ekta broke the silence. “Are you going to ride in silence the whole way?” she asked. George never took his eyes off the path. “It’s best to keep my mind on getting you to Taza,” he replied, before kicking the horse in the ribs to get him to pick up the pace. To his surprise, Ekta kicked her horse, and in a matter of seconds was at his side once more. It was then he gave into his temptation and looked her way. ...
