Don’t tell Master. My curiosity is always getting me into trouble! Oh dear, oh dear!” “Eunuch, enough! Now, finish the contents of the king’s goblet and clear the rest of the room. Our Caesar deserves to awaken to a fresh glass of wine and clean chambers. Be off!” With that, the eunuch drained the remnants of the goblet and suddenly fainted on top of Cassius. Quickly, Rona grabbed the keys from Roland’s pocket, got dressed and left the royal chambers, closing the door behind her. Leaving the keys in the door, she passed through the royal chamber, and out of the palace. The cool, fresh air reawakened her, and she ran back to Cyprian’s court. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Soon, the rumors spread of the now deceased Caesar. A member of his harem found the Caesar dead in his royal bed, with his eunuch dead on top of him. The disgrace felt throughout the empire was palpable. Cassius Caesar’s intimate lover was his own eunuch? It was suspicious enough that the Caesar had no offspring, but to think it was because he kept the company of eunuchs was truly despicable. The thought stung at the very core of Romans. The Senate, clearly reeling from the depravity of the “Eunuch King” quickly nominated Cyprian to be their new Caesar, and Rona was put in command of his court. Now, just weeks after she assassinated Cassius, Rona found herself lying down in the same bed. As she looked out the window to Cyprian’s former court, she smiled, and rested her head in Cyprian’s lap. As he passed his fingers through her hair, she heard the words she always longed to hear: Well done, my queen. Well done.”
