violence than he was at ruling. His poor management of the empire had led to ruin for the Roman people, and yet his mighty temper and tendency to strike out violently at politicians or military leaders who opposed halted most efforts to replace him. He was indeed powerful, but his enemies grew more numerous every day. His penchant for violent sexual behavior was an open secret in the court. His fantasies were morbid and cruel, and his harem reflected his desires. His personal concubines were sullen, ragged women, worn down from years of abuse and neglect. He soon grew tired of them, and would walk the streets finding new “daughters to do their duty”. He was infamous for using, abusing, and discarding younger women, and was always on the hunt for new victims. Cyprian knew this, of course. Protector of Rome and the conniving Senator Cyprian. What business does the servant of the snake have here?” Her heart burned with anger, but her face showed poise, even desire. “Cassius Caesar, I come from the office of Senator Cyprian. He sends a gift for the celebration of Jubilee.” Cassius snatched the letter from Roland, tore it open, and read it speedily. “EVERYONE OUT! LEAVE MY PRESENCE AT ONCE! Angerona, you come with me to my chambers.” Roland flashed a suspiciously knowing glance to Rona as he scuttled from sight.
