    Blake Abel Foster It's been nearly two weeks since my accident. My bruises are all nearly gone; but, this cast on my leg is about to drive me absolutely insane. It itches like you wouldn't believe. I nearly lost a fork down there, in the cast, while scratching it last night. But, who am I to complain? I've had possibly the greatest caretaker in the world helping me heal - both physically and emotionally. My mother's a little taken back and not sure what to do with herself - she's used to taking care of me, back when I used to get injured during past football seasons. But, Ben has really stepped up to the plate and is helping me rehabilitate myself. While I love having all of his attention and him being around me almost 24/7, it's getting to be a little much. It's like, "Dude, I'm a big boy. I can wipe my own ass. You just take care of my ass in the way I need you to - wink, wink." But, bless his heart; no matter how much I try to do things on my own, Ben's right there - either doing it for me or hovering over me as I try to accomplish the task at hand. My father's been out of town on business for the past two weeks. It's actually been nice with him gone; but, I knew he wouldn't be gone forever. And, to be honest, I wouldn't want him gone forever. Even if I am dead to him, he's my father and I still love him. After mom got off the phone with him she informed Ben and I that he's due back home in a couple of days and apparently wants to have a family sit-down when he returns - ...
    oh, great... I turn to Ben and say, sarcastically, "Well, it's been fun having you around the past couple of weeks..." Sitting next to me on the couch, he just looks at me and smiles. I grab his hand, interlocking our fingers. Mom smiles, cocks her head and says, "I'm sorry, honey..." She turns her attention towards Ben. "Ben, you're still welcome to stay until Blake's father comes home." "That's okay, Kelly," Ben replies. "I feel like I'm wearing out my welcome." I squeeze Ben's hand and look at him quizzically. He lets out a shy smile and stands up, releasing the grip I had on his hand. I start having a mini panic attack and my stomach turns sour. Did I say something? Did I do something? "Ben, honey," my mother starts. "You have not worn out your welcome. I've enjoyed having you here. Maybe not as much as my son; but..." She winks at both of us, letting out a shit-eating grin. "Please, you don't have to go, honey," she finishes. "My mother's actually been badgering me to come home for the past few days, anyway. I better not piss her off." I reach for Ben's hand and squeeze it, again. And, again, he removes his hand from mine. He begins walking toward the front door. I get up from the couch, which is no easy feat with a bum leg and a pair of crutches. My mom starts towards me, to help me up; but, I wave her off. I get up and start towards the door, trying to catch up to Ben before he reaches the door. I finally catch up to him as he opens the door. In a hushed voice I say, ...
