somewhere to camp before the sun goes down," she observed. Sherry turned for a moment and looked down the beach and for any sign of the men Sandy had seen. She really was trying to keep a brave face, but she'd never been very good at hiding her feelings from her. "We will, don't worry. I'm sure we can find somewhere out of sight." she said, trying to re assure her, yet knowing how afraid she was. "There are a lot of caves, maybe we can find one that's suitable." "Okay," Sherry replied, uncertain but faithful. Having taken care of the rope, they went to get their things. A huge bunch of branches, sticks and twigs were piled up and ready to light. "That was gonna be one hell of a bonfire," admired Sandy, "but we're going to have to take it down." It didn't take long before the stack of branches and twigs had been disassembled and all trace of it was gone, almost as fast as Sherry had gathered it up. Off in the distance above the sound of the gulls and crash of the waves, they could hear men yelling and a gunshot blast, followed by laughter. The rock itself made the perfect spot to hide. It sat in the middle of what looked like a huge "U" shape of ancient volcanic stone. Being near a cliff, it overlooked the ocean and the black rocks that seemed to litter the shore, encircling the small island. They could tuck themselves in the bosom of the rocks and remain hidden. They looked at each other and smiled. "It's perfect here," Sherry said, putting the blanket down, with and a sort of wonder in her voice. "What a beautiful view." Sandy set the bags down and walked over behind Sherry, putting her arms around her waist. She put the side of her face against Sherry's and snuggled up closer to her, with her arms folded into Sherry's, as they waited for the sun to set. As the sun lowered into the ocean, the light breeze calmed them while they stood there together, watching as the orange and red streaks turned blue, and the sun sank into the water. Sandy remained behind Sherry, embracing her. For a moment, time seemed to stop. "Do you think there are snakes out here?" Sherry asked, with no shame of sounding afraid. "Maybe, but it's winter so I doubt they're out right now." ...
