lips trying to be strong. Back at the station, the tools were cleaned and supplies replenished. Jay filled out all the required reports, just before the bell went off again. Bayli woke up in the hospital. The last thing she could remember was the crash, and then the fireman who had helped her. Every time she closed her eyes, she could see his caring look and hear his compassionate voice. Doctors and nurses passed through her room, telling her what was next in the arsenal of tests, X-rays, and procedures she had in store for her. A tear streamed from her eye, as she felt so alone. The only comfort she could find was in the face of a stranger. Her thoughts were derailed as the surgeon came in to tell her what was about to happen. She nodded her head, but didn’t understand anything the doctor said. She noticed that something had caught the surgeon’s attention. Bayli turned her head toward the door, and there he was. He was dressed in navy cargo pants, blue fire department t-shirt and a ball cap. He stood at the door with a single long stem red rose, and a smile. He reached over, grabbed his cap, placed it on his head and stepped from behind his desk, as the fireman returned. Jay stopped dead in his tracks. Behind the fireman was one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen. She was wearing a chevron printed sun dress with small straps over her shoulder. He looked at her face, and recognized the grey-blue eyes. He smiled, and she smiled, and the drop dead gorgeous smile with dimples appeared. It was no mistake that his visitor was Bayli. He stepped forward to greet her and bumped into a chair which caused him to stumble. He shook his head, he could not believe he was acting like a clumsy school boy. She giggled at his stumble, and her laugh was like music to his ears. She opened her arms and hugged him. He placed his arms around her waist and returned her hug. “God she smells good,” he thought to himself. When ...
