little with the small shock that coursed through me at the physical contact with him. There was a moment of uncomfortable silence. Neither of us knew exactly what to say to each other. It was strange to know so much about someone and yet to have never actually spent time together. I picked up my cappuccino and took a big gulp. The foam tickled my lips, but the liquid was hot and it burnt its way down my throat. He laughed at my eagerness and mistake in not taking the time to let my drink cool. Like some scene out of a cheesy romance film, he reached across and wiped the foam from my nose. Luckily, it was the ice breaker we needed and soon we had covered all the usual topics. I wished I had the ability to slow down time. All too quickly the bottom of my cup appeared, leaving only a slight residue of foam. I could feel my disappointment building, as our time together was coming to an end. I resigned myself to the fact that he was about to leave, telling myself that I was lucky to have spent any time with him. That was until he spoke again, “How about we have a deal?” I raised my eyebrows in question. “If I help you find some shoes to match your dress, you can help me find a gift?” He could have offered me any deal – if the outcome was me getting to spend more time with him, I think I would have agreed. “Deal.” With a combined caffeine rush and a giddiness that can only come from being in someone’s company that you fancied, I followed him out the coffee shop and back into the ... walkways of the mall. He asked me which shops I’d already tried. Knowing which places to avoid and enquiring what my budget was, he headed off with me keenly following behind. “There’s this little shop I know. It’s tucked away and not many people know about it, but I know the owner. All the women that I know rave about this place, so we should be able to find you something,” he chatted, as I followed. I hadn’t known the little shop was there and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of items that I liked from a quick glance. Neil said his hellos to the shop owner and they had a little catch up about his family. While he did that I wandered around, taking in the items for sale. “I’ve come to help my friend, Jayne. She needs to find some shoes for her dress. Jayne, this is Mary,” he introduced us, before asking Mary, “do you mind if she puts her dress on, so I can see which shoes look the best?” “No love, you go ahead and do what you need to do.” She pointed us towards the changing room at the back of the shop. I nervously walked with my shopping bag in hand. Behind the curtain in the dressing room, I felt conscious that only a thin amount of material separated my semi naked self and my crush. I struggled to get into the dress, which only hours before had slid on with ease. This was down to the thin coating of sweat that covered my entire body. The heat was unbearable, although I’m sure if I’d check the thermostat in the shop it was no way near the soaring heights it felt to me. ...
