Minutes passed and the angle lessened just before we flew out of an opening to land in a heap of muck and sticks in one end of a cavern. Breath knocked out of the both of us, I looked around. It was a very large cavern but lit enough so we could just see the roof and opposite walls hundreds of feet away. The light, a pale green, emanated from some sort of fungus spread in patches everywhere. We crept in that direction keeping a mound of debris between us and them and settled down close enough to observe, hoping they would soon depart and let us follow the map to our final destination. All we could see from out vantage was the figures’ torsos from the hip upward. She started to stand to get a better look and I pulled her down in front of me. “Fool, you’ll get us noticed. Just wait for them to finish whatever they are doing.” A dull, slow beat sounded, echoing off the walls. Eight nude and slim-built women strutted toward an equal number of men. The men were naked: lean, well-muscled and swaying to the thump of the drum. Their skin glistened in the low greenish light.
