Before I could respond Cydney was already acting like I had said yes. "I already checked out a few hotels in the city. This one has a hot tub, oh and there's one with a standing shower! What do you think babe?" "Cydney, this is all wonderful and I love your enthusiasm, but I can't." "Can't what?" Her expression changed immediately "I can't do this, I can't spend the night with you. I'm married." "So? We've already fucked and told each other we loved one another. What's the problem Jason?" She was getting angrier by the second and I couldn't blame her. I was ruining our coffee date. "It's not like I don't want to spend the night with you, it would be amazing. If I did Dana would start asking questions and I can't tell her I'm having an affair." Cydney began to tear up. I tried to wipe the tears falling from her face but she slapped my hand away. "Don't touch me." "Baby please understand." "No Jason I will not try and understand. I love you. You're everything I want in a man and partner and I can't see myself with anyone else. I thought you felt the same way but if you're afraid to answer some "questions" to a woman who hates you then I guess you don't." I said nothing. There was nothing I could say. She was right about everything. Cydney began to rise from the table. "If you had said yes I was going to surprise you with this." She placed a card on the table. "I already got us a room at the nicest hotel in the city. I'm still going, I already paid for the room. You would've ...
like it. If you love me like you say you do, come tonight. Room 749. Goodbye, Mr. Hightower." I sat in the coffee shop for a good hour after Cydney left. I didn't know what to do. Part of me wanted to leave with her, but there was a part of me that couldn't find the courage to do so. I decided to go home, hoping I would not regret this decision. When I entered the house, Dana was sitting on the couch reading a book. "Hey hun, how was work?" "Fine." I answered. I went Into the kitchen and started fixing myself a drink. I went to the back patio and looked up at the stars. I shouldn't be here. I'm an idiot, I need to be with Cydney. I love her. I don't love Dana. Cydney makes me feel alive, makes me feel important. She would do anything for me, and I would do anything for her. It was time I proved that fact. I walked back inside the house and went over to where Dana was sitting. "Dana, I'm leaving you. I love someone else and I am going to be with her tonight, and every night afterwards. I'm sorry but I can't keep lying to myself. Goodbye." Dana was stunned at my admission and I left just in time before she nailed me in the head with a vase. No going back now. While I drove into the city, I thought about what I was going to say to Cydney. I had hurt her, and just showing up wasn't going to fix it. She needed to know I was serious about our relationship, and ready to make us official. Taking a deep breath, I slid the key card in the door and entered the hotel room. The door closed ...
