she discovered here at Land’s End. She sat down and discretely looked all around trying to find Landra, but she didn’t see her. She even peeked into the kitchen and out to the reception desk, but she wasn’t there either. She deliberately slowed up her breakfast hoping to give Landra more time to show up, but it was in vain. Just when she decided that 90 minutes was enough for breakfast and was ready to leave with resignation, she heard the innkeeper talking to his wife: “By the way, I sent Landra to town to get the radio repaired ...” Kea felt relieved and went up to her room. When she opened the door, there was a hand written note on her bed: “Remember, today it’s my turn. I’ll meet you on the beach. At sunset. Landra”. Kea dropped herself on the bed holding the note with a smile. The day drifted by. Kea had given herself a rule for these holidays: no plans. So she just let the hours pass with no schedule. She tried some reading but she wasn’t able to concentrate, so she went out for a walk to the pier and watched some women sewing fishing nets. Kea thanked the innkeeper for the information and decided to go to get a couple of sandwiches and a big bottle of water and have lunch at the ruins, because it was the nearest option. When Kea came back to the inn, it was already six o’clock. She loved the ruins and its location. From there, one could see several miles of the coastline, as well as the estuary that the mouth of the river formed when it flowed into the ocean. As she was pretty tired, she tried to have some rest but now that she wasn’t busy admiring landscapes, she began to notice her anxiety again. Finally, she thought it would be better to go down and have something light for dinner. There was a group of fishermen chatting around a jar of wine, but nobody dining. She sat down and the innkeeper’s wife offered her a portion of grilled baby squids she had just prepared... “Straight from the sea”, she said. Kea accepted and found them exquisite indeed. No sight of Landra. When she finished, she went to her room and noticed how her anxiety was ...
