over and we're both legally separated, I think I'd like to find out." "Frankie, that's a date." That made me smile. There was a brief pause. I think both of us were imagining what that date might be like. I certainly was. Dana Munson was a beautiful woman. After a moment Dana said, "Frankie, Jeff told me that he also managed to bribe a maid at The King's Motor Inn. He has microphones set up in the room that Pete and Katie always use. Because the recording will be made in a motel without Pete and Katie's knowledge and consent we won't be able to use it as evidence in the divorce hearings. Still, it should give us a little more insight into their affair." "I'll be very interested to hear what Katie is saying to your husband." "I will too. Jeff said that he'd get me two copies of the recording right away in the morning. I'll call you as soon as I have them." "Thanks Dana, I'd appreciate that." "Frankie, I'd better get back to work. I kept visualizing Katie in that motel room with Munson. Both of them were naked and sweaty. For the next two hours a torrent of emotions roiled inside of me. Disappointment came first, but it quickly morphed into pain and agony. Pain and agony didn't last long, they immediately degenerated into despair. For awhile I wallowed in despair, but despair is an emotion of the defeated. While I was hurt and I was angry, I was not defeated. I would never accept defeat from a low life like Pete Munson. Gradually I pulled myself together. My strength returned and banished the last remnants of despair from my heart. I remembered the plan. My resolve fortified, I locked my office and drove home. As soon as I arrived at home I poured myself a stiff scotch and drank it while I packed a small carry on bag. I wasn't actually going to Kansas City, but if I was going to convince Katie that I was, I needed to be carrying a bag when I left the house in the morning. While I was doing that I glanced around the bedroom. I couldn't see any signs of Jeff ...
