across the room Veritas realized his position. This whole time he thought of himself as just another piece of the puzzle. He didn’t consider himself all that special. Agreeing he visited the villagers. They followed him as he met with Chief. “These things you want us to fight with them. Impossible,” Chief protested. The villagers behind him agreed. “They’re monsters!!” Veritas stood facing the crowd of men and women in front of him. Taking a deep breath he spoke, “As all of you know us adventurers hail from a different place. Where I came from, to protect my family, I became a monster. Just by seeing my face people moved aside. Sure it felt lonely at time; yet, those I care about are taken care of. My question, are you all willing to do the same? To discard your humanity for those you love.” He clenched his palm into a fist, “What’s the point of being an angel if those whom you want to share your life with are no longer there. Such life to me is pointless, unfulfilling, depressing. However, to share my memories with my family, friends if I need to become the devil himself, I shall. Don’t’ you all agree?” Some nodded, others straightened themselves absorbing his words. His voice cleared their doubts. Like a winter breeze he blew new life into them. “Because I didn’t conform I was labeled as a monster. My method gave me the results I wanted. So shall you all be viewed by them as demons, monsters, unholy entities.” He chuckled staring at the crowd. In the distance Grimshak and ...
his family heard his speech. “Besides what are monsters anyway, in war historians will have you believe there is a ‘good’ side and a ‘evil’ one. Is this really true, let me tell from my point of view they are two sides in wars. The one who tells the story versus the one who listens to it being told, now tell me if we lose this war how will you all be portrayed in the history books.” Letting it sink in for a couple seconds he resumed. “It seems you understand. You all will be monsters. ‘How dare you cohort against the kingdom’ they’ll write. If you all win, well they have all the economic power so they’ll still label you as monsters I guess.” He rambled for a while. “I guess win or lose you’re all monsters. Embrace it, instead of shunning. In fact I got a name for our group. Our name will root fear deep into the enemy’s heart. Three simple letters will shake this world and this battle shall be its birth. Our name shall be Oni.” Out of nowhere Grimshak started a chant, “ONI, ONI,ONI.” Banging their shields the rest of the skeletons joined in as well. Aüra who seemed to slowly be breaking out of shyness lifted up her bow joining in the shout. Gently more villagers partook in the chant, until their camp got drowned by their noise. “Now let’s win this war,” Veritas yelled. Chapter 5: The conclusion Alsèf’s main force had arrived. They were composed of 3000 people along with those who had retreated form the advancing force. In total they were 3500 strong. Fighting at night would ...
