---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John slept most of the way home. In his dreams, he could see his beautiful wife. Beth was the most beautiful woman in the world to him. He missed the twinkle in her blue eyes, and the taste of her sweet lips. He loved the way her brown hair flared out on the pillow as he made love to her. What he missed the most, was her gorgeous smile being the first thing he saw each morning. He wiped the sleep and tear from his eyes as the airplane touched down. He looked out the window to see America for the first time in a long time. There was no big welcome home parade. It was just him and four others quietly walking through the empty hanger. After all the paper work had been filled out and signed, the soldiers climbed into a Hum V for the short ride to the base. When the light turned green, he eased out of the turning lane and drove past. His heart was heavy, but he knew once he had her in his arms, it would be hard to let her go. When he arrived at the apartment complex, he decided to park across the street instead of the parking lot that he normally parked in. He parked, got out of his truck and went inside. He put his things in the bedroom and sat down in the living room. He picked up the phone and called the restaurant. Just his luck, Beth answered the phone. He disguised his voice the best he could and asked for the manager. Apparently she didn’t recognize him and told him to hang on. After a brief moment of silence, a man picked up the phone. “This is William,” the manager stated. “Bill, this is John. Is Beth close by?” “Ah… no she is ...
