onto Stanley Milgram’s study based on using authority to control people. After every little detail of knowledge I dropped, he feigned an incredible interest in what I knew. He had made me look like someone who routinely carried out intellectual conversations while guzzling down soju-enforced beer. With all the approval he was pushing onto me, I could begin to notice Jane’s interest spilling off him and onto me… She held a coy smile on her face as I talked, and she even threw in a few of her own questions. By the end of the meal, before we were too tipsy, we were talking about our personal introspections on the mysteries of the mind and universe. We had charmed her intellectually. Now it was time to entice her physically. Club Hybrid was a hotspot of Itaewon, the kind of place people heard stories about more often than they visited. The massive dancefloor was packed, the people were dressed elegantly, and the drinks were expensive. Julian had slipped me some cash during the walk and insisted I buy the first couple rounds of martinis, to make me look like a high roller. I was purely shocked. And so delighted. Julian was officially a genius. With Jane taking up a physical interest in me, Julian stopped devaluing himself in front of her. He and I became two pong paddles bouncing her between us on the dancefloor, and with each passing, we drew closer to each other, until her body was pressed firmly between us and we danced almost as one lust-filled soul. She must have been considering it then, that she could allow the night to end with the three of us entwined like this, but in a bed rather than a dance floor. Several others on the dancefloor also seemed to be thinking of this, and through the flashing lights we noticed them gawking at us. Jane broke out of our grasp and moved to dance on the edge of the crowd. We had pushed her too hard, too soon. And when we tried to resume dancing close to her, she gravitated back to ...
