    frowned. “Who is it from?” I asked. “There is a way to find out,” she laughed gently, “Open it.” I picked at the edge of the thick paper flap and peeled it back, breaking the wax seal. Inside was a single sheet of velum, folded in half, which I removed and opened carefully. I began to read and, as I did, my chest constricted, making breathing difficult, as I read the words.
