    I received a phone call this morning from my s****r who lives in Iowa. She wanted to know if I would look after her daughter for a couple of weeks. Steve, her husband won The Salesman of the Year award which was a 2 week trip to Europe for two. They wanted to make this like a second honeymoon and didn't want their daughter along. My s****r is several years older than I am and their daughter is now 16. I haven't seen them in a long time, maybe 3 or 4 years. The last time I had seen Laurie; she was about 13 and cute as a button, shy and quite. &#034When would you need me to watch her?&#034 I asked, sounding a little perturbed. &#034Jim, it would be a big favor, and with you living out on that island, Laurie wouldn't get into trouble. We have tickets for the last weekend in June, and would like to have Laurie fly out about the 25th if that's ok with you. She will fly into Seattle and arrive about 8PM, that was the only flight we could get tickets for.&#034 I'm an artist and live on one of the island in Puget Sound. I work at home and ship my work off to galleries in San Francisco and Phoenix. There really isn't much to do around here, only a few permanent residences and a couple of dozen summer cabins that are occupied most of the summers. &#034Eight o'clock eh?     going to have to help me finish the roof on the new addition to the cabin.&#034 June rolled around so quickly, Laurie would be here in a couple of days and I haven't yet even figured out where she'll stay. Maybe it would be best if she took my room and I slept on the couch that would keep me working on the addition that was to be my new studio. Of course, the only bathroom will be through the bedroom but that can't be helped. I cleaned out all of the magazines and videotapes that would be suitable for a young girl and put them into the attic. The day finally arrived, so I drove down to Seattle, doubled check on the last scheduled boat back. &#034Shit! Nine PM, its going to be close&#034 I thought aloud. Leaving early, I stopped and pick up groceries, beer, soda and an extra tool belt. If I work her hard she'll go to bed early and I won't have to entertain her. I drove around the parking garage looking and waiting for a spot close to the terminal so we could make a quick get-away. &#034Front row, must be an omen&#034, I thought. Entering the terminal. I looked for the gate number on the video monitors, and finally spotted Laurie's flight marked in red &#034LATE&#034. Well, there so need to hurry now, we'll never make the boat. The plane was only 20 minutes late but it didn't matter any more. I watched the passengers come through the door looking for the young teenager I remembered. Where was she?
