    I can’t believe my luck, another Friday night and I’m stuck at home watching my younger s****r. I wanted to go to the movies with the guys but mom and dad told me that at 12, I was old enough to watch Kathy. Dad promised that if I did this tonight then I could go to the movies tomorrow. When I complained that all my buddies were going tonight, he suggested I call and see if they would wait until tomorrow. I took my cell phone out of my pocket and dialed my best friend Jack. I explained what was going on and he said he would call the other guys and ask. He promised to call me back when he knew. I moped around the house for about 20 minutes before Jack called. He told me that they agreed to wait until tomorrow. Dad must have seen the smile on my face because he gave me a thumbs up sign. “Okay dad, it worked out okay.” I told him when I hung up. “With age comes responsibilities Donny. You’re old enough to do more and of course we will pay you for your work.” “Really, you never paid me before.” “Yeah well, you’ve never watched her for more than a half hour. Tonight will be several hours.” “How much?” “That depends on how long we are gone. Let’s see about $5 an hour.” “Deal, I’m going to be rich.” I said excitedly. Dad laughed and mussed my hair.     probably play in her room most of the night anyway. I could only hope. Mom came into the living room with Kathy in tow. She went over all the rules again. She told Kathy to behave and to listen to me. She nodded her head telling her that she would. “Can I go back to my room. I want to play with my dolls.” She asked. “Okay sweetie, we’re leaving now anyway.” Mom told her. Mom and dad kissed her before she went running down the hall. Mom kissed my forehead and dad patted my back telling me to be good. I waved as they drove out the driveway. I closed the door turning the deadbolt. I went in the living room and turned the TV on. After an hour, I thought it best to check on Kathy. I went down the hall to her room. I knocked on the door but she didn’t answer. I turned the knob and slowly opened the door. Kathy was sitting on the bed with her dolls. The girl doll was on the bed and the boy doll on top of it. She was pushing the boy doll down in steady rhythm on the girl doll. “Hey Kathy, watcha doing?” “I. . .I’m ah. . .they’re uhm. . .I’m just pretending.” she stammered. “Pretending what?” I asked. “She wants to have a baby.” Kathy said blushing brightly as she pointed to the doll. “What do you know about that stuff.” I teased. “I’m 11, I know how babies are made.” She huffed.
