I put it into my briefcase, snap it shut and was about to speak when she says, “So, how about dinner tonight? I had no idea you were still living here.” “Well Patricia, (I called her by her more professional name), I don’t live here. I live in San Francisco.” I replied. “Oh? Then you’re staying at a hotel?” she queried quite surprised “Yes, the Regency.” I said “Have you checked in yet? Well, don’t even think about it, you’ll stay at my place.” “Oh I couldn’t impose, and besides, I don’t want to have to explain things to your f****y.” Just then, I looked down at her hand, and there was a wedding ring. “There is no f****y to impose on. I’ll explain it all at dinner, OK?” Once again, lost for words, I said “Oh, Are you sure?” “Trust me” she said and we both chuckled at the age old axiom. She asked me to wait in her office and she would take care of the contract, and we could leave. I had my back to the door to her ...
